Las Vigas

Even when its supposed that this zone correspond to a prehispanic enclaves, the town, located 30 km away from Xalapa in Perote direction, has won importance during the XVI century, because was a interlude to the merchant traffic between San Juan de Ulua and La Antigua towns.

The principal attractions of the zone are the caves, grottos and natural excavate caverns in the zone called “Volcancillos”. From the viewpoint “El Bordo”, 2 841 m. high above the sea level, can be observed the Bobo river’s source, a natural vision of imposing beauty. The ecological reserve San Juan del Monte, 5 km away, and Valle Alegre to 14 km, a location where can be seen antelopes, buffalos and llamas, complete the natural landscape which represents the wealth and he ecological diversity of this place..
