de Serra, located to190 km of the Capital and 2460 ft above sea level,

Jalpan Mission,
This was the first Mission built by Fray Junipero Serra, and served as the
model for the four other Missions he constructed, Its building dates from
1751-1758. It is considered one of the most stunning examples of baroque
architecture in the new world.

Sierra Gorda Museum,
Utensils and diverse
pre Hispanic objects from the region are displayed in this museum, located
on the main plaza.

Presa Jalpan,
Just a kilometer and
half away from the city center, this dam has boat launches and campsites,
so fishing, camping and boating can be enjoyed.

El Puente de Dios
(God's Bridge)
This site
affords a great view. A canal of the river that comes from Pinal de Amoles
flows through a singular cavern surrounded by jungle-like vegetation

Tancoyol
Mission,
The Mission, constructed from 1761 to 1767 under the direction of the
Franciscan monk Juan Ramos de Lora, is the five Mission.
The Mission is
dedicated to Our
Lady of the Light.
Festivities:

Anniversary of
the Founding of Jalpan,
This large farm and
artisan fair is held in the last half of April and celebrates the city's
founding. These fifteen days are filled with sporting and cultural events,
storytelling, dances contests, singing, folk, dancing, rodeos, cockfights
and the crowning of the fair's queen.
Salt dried beef dishes are
popular this region of the Sierra Gorda. Trout and crawfish are specialties
too. Hand stitched cloth, carved wood pieces, leather objects are hand made
in this area.
