.Colon is located 37
miles away from the capital City. The climate is mild - dry, a mid
annual temperature of 66° F. Colon is 2000 meters above sea level., was
originally known as Tolimanejo that means the place where rubber is
collected.
Colon was first inhabited by Chichimecas and Otomies indigenous cultures.
Their main activities were the obsidian carvings to make arrows, knifes and
other tools used for hunting. In 1550, the otomies, tarascos and mexicas
helped the Spaniards to conquer the Chichimecas. Lately during the Colonial
period, the people developed some agriculture, mine work and commerce.

Mision de Santo
Domingo de Soriano,
Colon has a majestic sample of the 17th century
architecture. The Church was built between the years of 1690 and 1703, and
founded by the friar Luis de Guzman, The mission is considered to be a
silent witness of the culture from yesterday and today.

Santuario de
Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Soriano,
Sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of the Sorrow,
nearby the San Domingo church; the building dates from the
19th
century

Los Pilones Cliff,
Surrounded by astounding vegetation, stones adopted
various shapes because of the erosion. The shapes appear to be bumps or
prominent peaks. It is located at the Ejido Patria Village 14 miles away from Colon.

Pinal del Zamorano,
Located in Los Trigos community, this place has
beautiful lodges and is surrounded by pines. This is an ideal place for
those who love the nature and the great outdoors.

La Carambada's Cave,
La Carambada used to
be a character around which many legend and stories were said. Nearby the
community of El Gallo there is a cave named after La Carambada,
because it was supposed to be her shelter. The cave is really big and
appropriate equipment is required to explore it.
Festivities:

Municipality Fair,
Takes place in October second week. Fireworks, party
ambience and much more can be enjoyed every year.

Soriano Festivities,
One week prior the Hole Week, the festivities to Honour
our Lady of the Sorrow occur, lasting six days. Various cultural and
social events take place during these days.
The regional Cuisine among the
typical dishes are the lamb cooked with maguey leafs, cactuses, maize dough
with pork and enchiladas. Fruits covered with sugar such as pumpkin, apple,
apricot and some others are also famous. Since the 16th century, the
inhabitants of the area are well known because of the knitting goods made of
wool and cambaya. Ponchos, carpets and Sarapes are typical.
