Holbox Island is located 11 kilometers from Chiquila on the northeastern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Holbox is a tropical island situated in the Yalahua Lagoon, its 73 kilometers long and its beaches are made up of a fine white sand. Holbox Island its a picturesque postcard place with sand streets and wooden homes. People in the island are friendly and warm, their main activities are fishing and tourism. In Holbox you will find peace, security and comfort surrounded by exuberant flora and fauna compared to Galapagos Islands, except for the penguins. There are some hotels, posadas and cabins by the beach; also there are great restaurants where you can enjoy delicious and fresh seafood, typical cuisine as well as national and international dishes. Holbox also counts with discotheque, grocery stores, boat rental, post and telegraph office, police station and catholic and protestant churches. To get to Holbox you
have to arrive to Chiquila by bus or car and then catch a ferry or boat to the
island. Ferry crossings are available at 6, 8 & 10 am;
