of Salamanca and was commissioned by Don Vasco de Quiroga in 1560.

Iglesia de San Agustín,
(San
Agustin Church) This is considered to be one of the
most important architectural works of art during the vice regal period.
Construction of the church and convent began in 1641 and took 64 year to
complete. The interior of the church contains 11 gold leaf altars of 24
carat gold, which date between 1768 and 1782. These altars are said to be
the most impressive in Latin America.
