WThe elders of this town remember a time when the soils of this land produced great corn, wheat and sugarcane crops. It was in 1731 when this area was donated to the Tlaxcalteca Indians to form the town of San Jose y Santiago del Alamo. They were assigned parcels of land for houses, orchards and planting. However, times changed and, in 1830, the village was renamed José de Viesca y Bustamante. It is now a gentle, relaxed place where the economy is sustained by the assembly plants that operate here. Within the town’s limits, located 77 km (47.7 miles) from Torreon via Highway 40, we can admire the Santo Santiago Apostol Temple and enjoy the Juan Guerra pond, which is still preserved as a spa.
