The
hero of the Independence, Jose Maria Morelos, inspir ed
the name of this municipality. Notable is the fact that this town not only
derives its living from agriculture, livestock and industry, but also from
tourism. The reasons are obvious. Its natural tranquility is enhanced by the
proliferation of clear springs like Ojo de Agua, Acequia de Nava and Pozo
del Molino, among others. To comfort the spirit, it has the Santa Rita de
Casia church and the chapel of the las Carmelitas Descalzas Convent. To
satiate the palate, there is goat, tripe and sweet caramels with walnuts.
For these reasons and others, its clear why Morelos is the preferred
destination by many tourists from southern Texas, especially during November
with the parades on horseback and in June with the patron saint festivals.
