Some of the common
characterizing factors of the small communities of Coahuila are: the mildness and calmness
of their areas, the total absence of crime and the manifesting hospitality
of its inhabitants. Abasolo is not left behind. Besides cultivating wheat,
sorghum, corn, and alfalfa and raising a little livestock, its inhabitants
portray the folklore of their traditions with a festival in honor of San
Vicente Ferrer (in April) and the Alpiste Fair (end of June, beginning of
July), complete with horse races and cock fighting. If its food you are
after, try the cortadillo (chopped seasoned beef ), chorreado bread (marble
bread), nut rolls, caramel cones delicious sweets, and squash empanadas (turnovers). The
Primero de Mayo thermal springs are very famous. As is evident, some things
that are rare and appreciated in large cities are common in places like
Abasole. Here, everyone knows everyone else and that is the way they like
it.
