King
Pacal Headstone
Known as
a headstone, this piece is the cover of King Pacal's tomb.
It was found into
the inscription temple in Palenque. Pacal started his
reign when he was
twelve-years-old and ended sixty eight years later.
His tomb was carved in a huge stone, so
big that experts suppose it
was formed into the pyramid before its
construction. King Pacal's corpse was placed in a waisted sacophagi that
resembled the Egyptian style.
The covering which sealed the entrance of the
tomb was slipped
on with the help of trunks.
Measures without base:
19 1/2" high
12 3/4" wide
1" deep aprox.
