Bahia Magdalena

Port of San Carlos, is located on Bahia Magdalena Bay, 40 miles from Ciudad Constitucion. Primarily a fishing town, its waters are renowned for the amount and diversity of fish and seafood. Sport fishing is superb throughout the year with marlin, sailfish, dorado, roosterfish, Wahoo and tuna. From January through march, gray whales come to calf in the warm lagoon waters and whale watching becomes he main attraction.

Puerto San Carlos offers all facilities, comfortable hotels, good restaurant, a trailer park, doctors, travel agencies, a gas station, post office, ice factory and bus service.

Port of Lopez Mateos, situated on Bahia Magdalena Bay, Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos is one of the best places to observe the gray whales during the mating season from January to march. The boatmen take the visitors as close as possible to these giants and friendly cetaceans.

The easiest way to get to Lopez Mateos is to take the highway to the south exit from Ciudad Insurgentes and drive to La Purisima, where after 2 miles you will find the junction. From here, it is 23 miles to Lopez Mateos.

In Puerto Lopez Mateos, you will a wide variety of activities to make your say more enjoyable such as sport fishing, snorkeling, swimming and kayaking among others. There are a small number of services such as restaurants, hotels and tour operators to assist you.

Ciudad Constitucion, the village is located 88 miles south of Loreto and 125 miles from La Paz. Because of is its strategic access to the Tran peninsular highway, it has emerged as the tourist access route to the gray whale nursery of Bahia Magdalena Bay.
